Biography
Mark Lang has written three critically acclaimed albums, making many album of the year lists as the singer-songwriter of Australian indie band Skipping Girl Vinegar. He has thrilled audiences from the main stages at Australia’s premier festivals, including solo shows at Bluesfest, Cambridge Folk Festival (UK), Stanfest (CA), Port Fairy Folk Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Woodford Folk, Falls Festival and many more. Mark’s work has received extensive airplay on major national broadcasters Triple J, ABC, Double J and community radio, as well as US college radio play with 7 weeks in the Top 100 CMJ charts, and numerous #1 & #2 positions across the US.
Mark toured his debut solo E.P extensively across Europe and North America including a sold out Australian tour. After a sold out show at Hamer Hall with Melbourne Indie Voices and fresh off the back of a North American tour, including the legendary Canadian festival Stanfest, Mark returns home to release his debut solo album Wild Swan.
The focus single ‘Bird Song’ from the forthcoming album will be released globally on 7 October.

New Album Wild Swan
Mark Lang’s forthcoming solo album ‘Wild Swan’ documents the poetic language of his son and revels in the long journey of trying to understand yourself, difference, place and family.
Written and recorded over a 3 year period between his small Australian coastal village and Nashville USA. Mark worked with long-time collaborators and producers Nick Huggins (The Dirty Three, Jen Cloher) and Brad Jones (Ron Sexsmith, Missy Higgins). The three friends uncovered a new sonic landscape for Lang’s songwriting to inhabit, delivering a masterful piece of work.
At the time of writing Mark was walking a lot. Out along the sea wall towards an old wooden pier, trying to recover the simplicity of a time before the technology took over. Memories of watching ‘Storm Boy’ as a kid, on the days when it was too wet to go outside, pointed towards another way of existing. He carried undercurrents of his mid life with him towards the heads of Port Phillip Bay.
Once in the studio, improvised musical experiments held unexamined truths, and a world started to form. A flock of songbirds, filling the sky, carried many of the questions we all ask ourselves. How do we show up for the people around us? How do I use the time I have? What on earth am I doing?
‘Wild Swan’ will be released through MGM on 27 October 2026.

‘Bird Song’ is the focus single of Mark’s forthcoming album WILD SWAN. The track explores the delayed ricochet of emotions you suppress to get through a major health crisis, giving yourself permission to take the time you need to heal even when it feels like the world has moved on.
Bird Song came to life after a conversation with a stranger. Mark was standing by the water with his dog circling his feet, clearing his head before a recording session. A woman approached and they struck up a conversation. She had come to the coastal town to recuperate after long, gruelling cancer treatment, and was now experiencing the delayed aftermath. From personal experience, Mark understood this. While friends feel relief once someone is in remission, for those directly affected there is still a long journey ahead, of confronting all the emotions they’d had to suppress in order to get through. Those memories rose to the surface in the studio that day. What emerged was a song of companionship for those still navigating their way out, giving permission to feel everything they need to, even when it seems as though the world has moved on.
'Wetlands’ is the third single from Mark Lang’s forthcoming solo album ‘Wild Swan’, an album that documents the poetic language of his son and revels in the long journey of trying to understand yourself, difference, place and family.
Surrounded by water, Wetlands was written in the treasured landscape of the small Australian coastal village that Mark calls home. A love song exploring the hazy space of memories, it mourns the passing of time, and celebrates the love of those we hold close.
Second single ‘Seabreeze Land’ is set outside a classic 1980's small town Milk bar.
After a hard day at school Mark would ride to the bottom of the hill with his son, eating lollies and unpacking the day. On the bench outside the door of the Milk bar they uncovered a shared feeling of being at odds with the world around you.
A moving and pivotal part of the song is when Mark is joined by a group of friends singing ‘we’re dancing in a long line of people who walk outside, dance outside the lines.’ One generation is passing on a message to the next, that you’ll find your people in time, and the way you are is wonderful and to be celebrated.
The song is Mark sharing his companionship and solidarity with a like minded soul while his son reflects that back as a quiet confidence, only encouraged by the sugar high that Seabreeze Land provides.
'Into The Wind' was the first single from the album.
When asked if the songbirds of the song are him, Mark suggests that the songbirds are the ability to let things go, a way of releasing things. ‘Song making is a healing process, a way to carry your worries and let them fly towards the horizon.
As the song reaches its peak, Mark makes a cry into the wind, both pleading and expelling. There is a duality in his performance, his voice is both the songbird and the burden it carries.
“I think because the conscious mind wasn't involved in this, in both the performance and the writing, it's why this album probably feels the most honest of anything I've ever made.”
